SP2 plugs-

Postby tony.mon » Sun Apr 02, 2017 8:00 am

I was looking for plugs, as I'll be doing a full service next week.

I looked up plugs; there appear to be two types commonly listed for the Sp2. The asme model number, but there are IR types and IX types.
I checked on NGK's site to see what the difference is, and found this:

https://www.ngksparkplugs.com/about-ngk ... iridium-ix

But interestingly, and other page gave the following advice:
https://www.ngksparkplugs.com/about-ngk ... ging-plugs

It seems that IX plugs have a slightly better design, but will "only" last 40-50 thousand miles.
But changing from used ones to new ones in a normally-running engine isn't worth it anyway, unless you have big miles or your engine has run rich or lean for a while.

How refreshing to find a company recommending you DON'T buy their products.....

As it turns out, before finding this on NGK's site I had already ordered a set of four at a good price from the listing below from Amazon:

NGK Spark Plug IFR9H11 Plugs [Box 4]
Condition: New
Sold by CAM Autoteile
£25.13

I got the delivery- only one plug- I wasn't too surprised. But why advertise a set of four when they only intend to supply one?
It's misleading at the least.
I can get my money back from Amazon.

I don't know what's fitted in the bike atm- probably the original ones as the mileage is only 20K and so the major service probably hasn't been done yet. For peace of mind I'll just do the lot.

I'll order a pair of IX's from Ebay:
Honda VTR 1000 SP2 02on ngk IRIDIUM spark plugs x2 6588
