Honda SP1 Gear..."Stick-POLE-Thingy!! URGENT.

Postby CHALKIE » Mon Oct 10, 2011 5:23 pm

Coming home from work tonight,I flicked up from 3rd-4th and my gear "thing",came off.

This bolt had come undone:

Question is; Should it be attached to a nut,the other side?

I managed to get home and tighten it with toolage,I'm wondering if I'm missing a nut?

I need to use the bike tomorrow. HELP.

Hi Chalkie, its called a rose joint, you just need to use a bolt with a washer against it and a washer on the other side against the rearset frame so that only the inner part of it is clamped. Nut used as necessary

Oh yes!
It's a common problem with rear sets. I suggest you take them off and give them to me. Give me a little cash too and I'll let you have my OEM in exchange

It happened again & this time I lost the nut. :(

I've managed to find a suitable nut,for now,but I'll be forever worrying it'll fall out again,(comes in three's!!) :x

Anyone else with aftermarket rearsets had any issues/problems/solutions? :?:

Thats a pity Chalkie,

You could try using some threadlock on the bolt when you stick it back together.

It's like a super glue for nuts and bolts. Might do the trick.

There are also nylock nuts, They have a little blue ring of nylon arount the nut and this helps to stop them vibrating off.

Hope you get it sorted

That's the thing mate. Does it need to be flexable or not? Is threadlock "flexable"?

I hate things going wrong on my WSB.

Hi Chalkie,

No the thread lock is not flexable, But that nut and bolt can be done up tight.

The movement is allowed for as the bolt goes through a small rose joint. If you look closley you can see the bolt goes through whats like a ball bearing with a hole for the bolt. The ball bearing can move about in the housing - also known as a spherical braring. Have a play with it and you should be able to see what I mean. sounds more complicated than it is.
