Returning a track bike to road trim

Postby Wyvern971 » Fri Dec 27, 2013 3:33 pm

I've got a track SP1 which I'm considering putting full road gear back on to.

Only question is, is it worth doing it?

I'll be looking at;

New Headlights
New fairings (full set)
New undertray

I'm thinking of doing this and getting another track bike.

What do you lot think?

To use yourself on the road or to sell on?
If it`s to sell on is it on the insurance register as a cat "C" or "D"? (all reflects the sale price)
How much are you willing to spend to get it roadworthy? New genuine fairings will set you back at least £1000, or a Chinese set for around £350-£400.
Lights do come up sometimes on ebay but still looking between £150-200. (new over £600 the pair)
Genuine unmolested Honda undertray for sale seem to be as rare as rocking horse s**t.
That said, always nice to see another one on the road so if the price is right why not

I've got a cabin rep side fairings already

Oh and I've a road SP2 already

I just don't want to risk wrecking the SP1

i have a whole set of fairings I slowly picked up from ebay.
All were damaged but easily repaired.
I have 2 tail sections and paid less than £15 each. each side cost 20 to 25.
and top section 30.

The above top cowl was vertually broken in half, but plastex and a soldering iron soon cured that.

If you have a lot of time and patience oe bits can be picked up for sensible prices,if you can wait.
headlights and tanks are always a struggle mind.

Decals cost me 150 quid fitted to my white Sp1 from the Image works.
Its the spraying that will cost you ,unless you know somebody.
