Pads, genuine or brembo anyone tried?

Postby Jemsp » Mon Oct 14, 2013 6:07 pm

I have just been nosing through old posts trying to see if anyone has tried the brembo pads as apose to OEM pads?
I have always run OEM pads on the sp after poor experiences with other make hh pads over the years but I fancy trying the brembo sintered pads.
Has anyone tried them and any feed back? I ride fairly hard on road (I'm no hero though!) so looking for goid initial bite and the sc are sounding like they are offering that?
Any feed back would be appreciated :)

Well I've just completed an expensive test by buying lots of cheap pads to discover they are no better. The sintered ones that came on the bike I think.. were EBC, they felt woody so bought some cheap Galfer pads that seemed to be organic (blue) off ebay (hey Marc Marquez on the picture, gotta be good) and they were a bit better but hands down, the Brembo pads I got recently off ebay of £37 plus £15 P&P was a bloody bargain and they are great. Not going to use another pad again…

Unless you intend racing the bike I would say standard OEM pads are hard to beat for normal road use and more  to be honest I personally can't see any gain in using Brembo pads unless you put Brembo discs on as well, maybe someone can enlighten me on this

Got to admit. I can pick the back wheel off the ground with just two fingers once the pads are hot. I don't think I need more than the standard pads to be honest. The only time I've not been happy with them is when I contaminated the pads with some oil from a leaky fork seal so I can't really blame the pads for that.

Same as that Pete,

The bite and power of the standard brakes is very impressive.

Haven't tried anything else so can't say much on the subject.

Interesting to read this as my brakes seem woeful after riding a track bike (ZX6 with race pads) and two modern thous. I have put braided lines on which has made the lever stronger but there aint much going on at the wheel?

I have a set of EBC to put on but was looking to put a Brembo master cylinder on, maybe i have glazed pads what you guys think?

Definitely a lack of friction problem going on there Goose,

As you say glazed or contaminated pads/discs.

Some workshop time on the cards for you :D

Yeah got to agree, something wrong there Goose, I've got OEM discs, OEM pads, standard lever, standard master cylinder, the only change is Goodridge braided hoses, I don't do track days etc. I only ride on the road and I have no issue what so ever with my brakes, in fact I'm very impressed with them, I can stand the bike easy on it's head if I want to.
Mind you I do clean the callipers, discs, pistons and change the fluid every year, maybe that is the key to keeping good brakes
