Re-Pack!!!!

Postby steelsey » Wed Feb 27, 2013 12:54 pm

Hey, my exhaust cans (TBR C4 Titanium) have not been re-packed and I read that you should do this every 2-3000 miles! There is nothing wrong with them, in fact they are great... well maybe a little quiet for my taste but sound good. My question is has anyone tried playing with exhaust packing, i.e. packing the pipe tight or packing it loose? If it's packed tight, I'm guessing the sound will be louder and the gas flow will exit the cans quicker. If packed loose i'm thinking the sound will have more bass and reduce the gas flow!?!? Basically what wadding should I use and what technique is the way forward for performance?

May be having a dable at this myself shortly. Notice some glass packing rolls on eGay that expand on contact with exhaust fumes. If I go down this route I will post some pics

I've done a few over the years and there is a very fine line between 'loosely packed' and 'TOO loosely packed'.
The padding tends to compress over time (a bit like your favourite helmet gets a bit baggier and windier over the years).
If you only put one or two rivets in each end but don't pop them you can then hold the can together with a ratchet strap lengthways and try it for sound a few times before sealing and pop riveting it a final time. It's an easy job on aftermarket cans, it's OEM that are bas***ds. :angry-banghead:
Good luck experimenting.

Thanks for the how to, just repacked my blue flame cans but had to disassemble them from the link pipe end as they are twin port ones and are spot welded in. I needed to get a dremel in the end and grind the welds off first before removing the end cap.

Can this be made a sticky to make it easy to find.
