Replacement Exhaust Collets?

Hi All,

As you well know, the exhaust system is probably the worst item on the SP1 when it comes to fitment/corrosion.

My front exhaust collet is almost completely disintegrated and unfortunately, one of the retaining bolts snapped in place. So I need to go get this removed. However, once I do, I really need a replacement collet but the OEM is a 1 piece item. Such that, it could only ever be replaced with 2, semi circular sections.

Does anyone know if there is a company which stocks such items?

I know I could get a fabricator to make them up but I'm low on cash these days. :angry-banghead:

Don't have any good news for you ..........

Had the same issue when one of the studs in the front cylinder snapped off, tried easy outs, pullers and all kinds of other junk, eventually drilled the old stud out and retapped the thread and put a new stud in.

As for the collet, mine isn't exactly in great shape but still butss up enough to keep both the gasket in the cylinder and allow the nuts to bolt up tight enough that the exhaust is at the right angle and doesn't blow.

Hopefully your collet is still useable as, short of removing the whole front section, cutting off the knackered collet with an angle grinder and then welding a new collet together, as you say, initially in two parts .......... I can't really think of anything else as I type.Provided the collet hasn't smashed the end of the exhaust off, it should still go back together.

Best of luck with that job, I definitely feel your pain.

You'll definitely need to drill out the old stud but aside from that the only other "quick fix" would be a new front exhaust section, which will probably be approx £250.
