Db killers

Postby CloggySp-1 » Thu Jun 07, 2012 2:13 pm

I'v got the old style 'Two Brothers Racing' exhausts on my SP-1. The music it produces is just bloody fantastic, but needles to say 'way too loud' for on the track. I'v just booked myself on a track day at Brands Hatch at 10 aug , so I need to get a set of Db killers. As I have no idea how loud these pipes are , does anyone know if db meters on Ebay or apps on the iPhone to measure the amount of db's it spits out are any good?
Thanks

To be any good ,the device needs a calibration certificate ,and then you need to know how far away they test and at what rpm ,plus is there device calibrated ?

In other words ,who the fook knows.

Sorry I cant be much help ,but its a right can of worms.

3/4 revs at 6 feet I think.
Different tracks have different levels and it can also change depending on whether it's a weekday or a weekend. You'll have to phone the track and find out what their limit is. I can't imagine a phone app would be much good as a real test but to put things into perspective, my standard pipes only just passed at Castle Combe track. They failed the first test so he had me do it again at 7k rpm and I raised the revs very slowly to keep the noise down a bit. I don't think they would let me anywhere near the place with my Sato's  Baffled or not

Alternatively, a lot of places are pretty good and will let you test the bike on another day when they are testing the racers for that day. Any chance you you pop along beforehand and get it tested early to avoid disappointment?
