No Spark!

Postby Sppete » Thu Aug 13, 2015 9:33 am

Hi Guys,
Im after a bit of a favour. My SP died whilst cruising at 50mph in the contraflow on the M6 the other day. It appears to either be the ECM or the CDI box.
I've been all through the loom and have checked the sidestand, kill switch, tilt sensor neutral switch and everything think checks out okay. I've even managed to dig out my old oscilloscope and see a waveform off the engine pick up , just before the scope psu went up in smoke (guess I shouldn't have got out of bed that day  ) .
Now I'm without a scope and no way of checking the feed to CDI unit. I'm thinking there is a good chance it's blown as it's the high tension end powering the coils. Is there anyone around who would let me try my CDI unit on there bike? I wouldn't want to try anyones on mine just incase something caused it to go and I wouldn't want to risk wrecking some one else's. Also, mine has no output to the coils as it stands so I'm pretty sure we would just fit it into another bike and the bike wouldn't run.
Normally I would just go out and buy one but at a little over £510 I'd like to be sure before investing my money.

Thanks
Pete

P.S SP 1 and 2 CDI units are identical with the same part number. The ECU's are completely different and over a grand

Hi Phil
I've an SP2. The ignitor boxes or CDI units are the same in all years. The ECU are different and it would have to be one for a 2002-2007 model.
If you have anything which might help I would be most grateful.
Glos is only up the road from me as I'm in north Bristol ( Yate)

Hi Phil,
Not fixed yet
I've been rushing home for the last few days hoping to find a parcel on my doorstep but nothing yet.
Hopefully it'll turn up either today or tomorrow.

Have you got any further with the coils installation yet?

Pete

:D :D It's Alive! :D :D

The ignitor box arrived this weekend and she's now running like a dream
I've taken the opportunity to remove my pipes and fix a gas leak in the rear mid pipe connector too
Managed to get her out for a test ride in a dry spell last night and she's running as well as she ever was
