Hi Zed,

This is what I recently bought for my SP2:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VTR1000-SP1-SP2-01-06-CASTROL-POWER1-OIL-AND-FILTER-/280705459357?ssPageName=ADME:L:OC:GB:3160

It's a good price, and free delivery too!

Cheers,

Jon.

Same as Jon mate castrol power 1 all day long. It's a semi synthetic 10w 40 which is what honda recommend. .
Always keep it black side down and shiney side up....

that's the important bit  I've always been a Silkolene man myself and then in more recent years I've been using Rock Oil.
Just get something specifically for bikes and don't be tempted to save a few quid with a car oil which is also a 10W40.

I always use silkolene semi pathetic. Not a fan off fully personally. Put 50,000 on my 1st SP1 and she never missed a beat on it :)

Car oil is different to bike oils as it is not designed to go through a gearbox. So bike oils have shear inhibitors.
If you use car oil - after a while the wet clutches will probably begin to slip.
I fixed this on my VFR750 by putting in heavier springs (It's always ran on Mobil 1 car oil since near new) but on the SP, I use oil designed for bikes.
Fully synthetic 10W40 (Wakos oil).

Flippin Heck!
Is that 2000 miles from new? or since your last change?
If it's from new the old stuff has probably gone off and needs flushing through. Use any old cheep oil for that and then put some good stuff in. If it's only since your last change and it's been no more than a couple of years I'd just warm the bike up, drain the old and put the new in.

Pete, I believe the bike has had oil changes, but has only covered 2,000 miles since new. Whilst the original tyres are on it, the oil isn't original :D

I saw the bike last week, and my god it's a proper minter...!! Spotless!!
